Meeting Students Where They Are

Every student is different and each one is a work in progress. As they make their way through middle school, high school and the college application process, the support and guidance they need changes with them.

Middle School

I meet with students periodically to provide academic support and encouragement. During this stage, we focus on developing effective study habits, organizational strategies, and time management skills. I also offer guidance on selecting age-appropriate extracurricular, after-school, and summer activities that encourage healthy exploration and growth.

During these two years, the focus remains on high school success. I schedule regular check-ins to discuss course selection, academic progress, and involvement in activities. Conversations center on maintaining balance, building strengths, and making thoughtful choices. I also introduce standardized testing options to help families understand timelines and determine the most appropriate approach.

Junior year provides an important opportunity for self-reflection as planning for college moves to the forefront. I offer structured tools and exercises to support students in clarifying their interests, values, and priorities. Together, we develop an initial college list and begin research to identify appropriate academic and personal fits. Junior year is also when work begins on the college essay process, including brainstorming potential topics and reviewing multiple drafts, with the goal of completing the Common App personal essay prior to the start of senior year.

12th Grade

This is the year when everything comes together.

Through the senior year, I provide ongoing, individualized support as students finalize and submit their applications. This includes continued guidance in refining and maintaining a balanced, realistic, and thoughtful college list, as well as brainstorming and reviewing any remaining personal statements and all supplemental essays. I offer comprehensive review and recommendations for the Common App, Coalition App, UCAS, and any institution-specific applications, along with advice on Early Action, Early Decision, and strategic application timing. Throughout the process, I encourage students to take ownership of their work and help them move forward with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
