“My daughter worked with Sohmer College Counseling and was successful in being admitted to her first choice school through early admissions. Lisa’s feedback on her application was invaluable, always pushing her to expand the topics she addressed and giving a fuller picture of who she was as an applicant and person.”

My daughter is going to her dream college thanks to Lisa’s help. Lisa is not only an extremely knowledgeable advisor, she also genuinely cares about her students. During her regular meetings with my daughter, Lisa provided priceless advice about the college process and was always available to answer questions, even on a very short notice. Her guidance, encouragement, and belief in my daughter were irreplaceable. Even after the college process is over, Lisa stays connected with her students, helping them to adjust to college life. She is the most amazing adviser and my daughter was very lucky to work with her.

Going through the college admissions process as a parent can be both challenging and exciting at the same time. Having been through the process twice with each of our two boys I can confidently say the balance between the two emotions is very much dependent on your college advisor.

We met Lisa very late in the game. With her help we finalized a list of colleges, developed a strategy, reviewed all of the required essays and a few months later sent our older son to his dream school —Northwestern University. We kept in touch with Lisa and when our younger son was in 8th grade, learned about the program she developed for upper middle/high school students. Remembering how stressful and hectic the process was the first time, we decided to take advantage of this early "college immersion" program and found it very helpful. Our younger son is happily joining the U Chicago Class of '25, his dream school.

Thank you Lisa, for your help, for your patience and support. Too bad we only have 2 children :)

Lisa Sohmer provided outstanding guidance at every stage of the process, from helping to determine suitable schools, to shepherding us through the various deadlines, to reading all the many essays, and providing frank and acute feedback as to what worked well, and what needed improvement (and how to improve it!). Lisa was always available, and was extremely personable and easy to work with.   Ultimately our daughter had an impressive range of acceptances and financial offers, and I'm confident would have not done nearly as well without Lisa's help.

Lisa was instrumental in having our son, and a couple of years later our daughter, successfully apply and get admitted to top colleges in the US. Specially remarkable is her taking the time and effort to get to know each applicant differently, a tailor-made approach that specifically suits their needs and increases their chances and options.

Lisa goes the extra mile to get to know the applicant interests and desires, with a personal warmth that invites them to open up. This gift enables her to suggest alternative colleges not taken into account by the family, which in our case ended up being the right institution for them to thrive personally and academically.

Thanks to her expertise, dedication and love for her job, Lisa is the utmost right person to assist students find and achieve their goals. Lisa will enjoy our family gratitude forever.
